Prince George’s Community College has partnered with the Prince George’s County Department of the Environment to offer a 3-session noncredit Urban Stormwater Management course that introduces the best management practices (BMPs) used for the County’s Rain Check Rebate Program.

This course is ideal for individuals, business owners, and community leaders, that want to learn strategies for addressing environmental impacts to their properties and communities and landscape design and construction professionals who want to learn more about low impact design and conservation landscaping principles that are increasingly being sought in the market-place.

Participants will learn:

  • How low impact development (LID) practices such as rain gardens, permeable pavers, cisterns, rain barrels, pavement removal, green roofs, and tree canopy are being used in Prince George’s County to meet water quality requirements mandated by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA);
  • How these seven small-scale retrofit practices quality for the County’s Rain Check Rebate program;
  • How these practices can be used to beautify properties and communities in addition to addressing environmental concerns; and
  • Design, construction and maintenance considerations that affect the functioning and appearance of these practices.

This course consists of nine hours of class time, and eleven hours of independent field work and participants qualify for 2 CEUs. 3 sessions, $100* Th 3/2-3/16 6:30-9:30 p.m. Largo
