  • Do you live near the Rappahannock River or some of its contributing creeks in Westmoreland, King George, Richmond, Essex or Caroline County?
  • Are you interested in learning more about the current conditions of your local waterways?
  • Have you done work on your property to protect or improve the health of nearby waterways?
  • Would you like to help us map out where sources of bacteria to the water may be coming from?

If you replied to YES to any of the above, then this is for you! Please join Department of Environmental Quality and Virginia Tech staff as we announce the kickoff of a project to develop Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), or “pollution diets” for the following:

Peedee Creek, Jetts Creek, Mill Creek, Baylors Creek, Portobago Creek, Elmwood Creek, Stillwater Creek, and a portion of the tidal Rappahannock River

We need your help to find out what may be contributing bacteria to the waterways. We will also give a presentation to explain the Clean Water Act and the water quality process in Virginia. Our mission is to establish target numbers and goals to pave the way for future improvement projects. If you’ve already done work to protect your local waters, then please come and share your experiences so we can make sure they’re recognized.

Food and beverages will be provided. The meeting will be held Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 6 p.m. at Westmoreland Fire Department located at 52 Rectory Road, Montross, VA 22520.
