Learn more about growing lavender & turning this fragrant herb into value-added products!

Future Harvest CASA and the Eastern Shore Resource Conservation & Development Council (ES RC&D) invite you for a walking tour and hands-on workshop at Lavender Skies Farm in Onancock, Virginia on August 3rd.

You’ll learn about best varieties of lavender to grow, techniques for harvesting and drying, and how to make your very own lavender hydrosol. All workshop participants will get to take home their very own self-made bottle of lavender hydrosol!

The event will be led by farm owners Yohannes and Maryann Cusimano who have extensive experience growing lavender and other scented plants and making value-added products. Maryann and Yohannes come from a long tradition of Spanish and Italian herb growers and are pleased to carry the tradition forward. For more information about their farm and products, visit their website!

As a proven high-value perennial crop, lavender farming offers many possibilities including:

  • An increasingly popular and fragrant side-crop
  • An attraction for visitors to your farm stand
  • A significant draw for agritourism
  • Developing lavender products to sell

This workshop will include hands-on activities and a potluck! Tickets are $10 for FHCASA members and $15 for non-members. Scholarships are available by contacting Josephine Mooney at 757-710-7266.
