    AECOM: Senior Environmental Scientist: Environmental Compliance

    AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Environmental Scientist: Environmental Compliance for immediate employment in the Germantown, MD office. The Germantown EHS Management Department provides environmental compliance services to federal, municipal, and private-sector clients, nationwide. In this position, you will use your environmental regulatory knowledge and project management skills to help our clients navigate their environmental compliance challenges. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    Environmental Scientist – Arlington, VA Office (125804BR)

    AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Scientist for immediate employment in the Arlington, VA office.

    The successful candidate will join the growing natural resources/environmental planning group of our Arlington, VA Environment office. The Arlington natural resources/environmental planning group provides services to both internal (larger AECOM) and external clients for projects mostly, but not exclusively, in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. A detailed understanding of state and federal regulations for wetlands, streams, and protected species in at least one of these jurisdictions and a working knowledge of them in the other two and/or any other state(s) within the mid-Atlantic region will be essential.

    While the bulk of the work is anticipated to focus on wetlands and Waters of the US delineation and permitting, flexibility is required to support the entire range of work the natural resources/environmental planning group performs.

    The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    Conduct field delineations of wetlands and Waters of the US
    Prepare delineation reports, functional assessments, mitigation plans, and jurisdictional determinations
    Prepare permit applications under Sections 404/401 of the Clean Water Act
    Coordinate with state and federal regulators as appropriate
    Conduct vegetation and wildlife habitat surveys
    Research and prepare natural resources sections of NEPA documents
    Prepare Section 7 correspondence and biological assessments
    Support business development efforts, including the preparation of technical and cost proposals.
    Because much of the natural resources/environmental planning group’s work is performed in support of larger planning and design projects, the successful applicant will have the opportunity and will be expected to establish and maintain successful working relationships with project and program managers across the company through excellent performance and successful networking
    Contacts with government and private sector clients, as well as coordination with other consultants, in the context of both ongoing projects and business development efforts, will also be a significant part of the work
    Perform well under occasionally tight budget and schedule constraints will be key to success
    Limited travel may be required

    *Minimum Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, forestry, soil sciences, or a related field
    8+ years of experience in: field identification & delineation of Waters of the US in the mid-Atlantic region; preparation of jurisdictional determinations; preparation of wetland permits; coordination/interaction with relevant regulators, including US Army Corps of Engineers; wetland mitigation planning; assessment and description of impacts for environmental planning documents; knowledge of relevant regulations, both federal and state level (VA, MD, DC, WV, DE)
    Evidence of strong writing and analytical skills
    Excellent communication skills
    Computer proficiency with in-depth knowledge of MS Office Suite
    Self-motivated and strongly team-oriented, with excellent communications skills

    *Preferred Qualifications

    Master’s degree
    Experience supporting the preparation of NEPA documentation
    Professional Wetlands Scientist certification
    Proficiency with GIS/GPS and AutoCAD
    Experience with the preparation of technical and cost proposals (for government or private clients)
    Basic understanding of federal contracting and sub-contracting practices and requirements

    The Environmental Science Section is comprised of scientists, planners, and support staff and is responsible for conducting various types of environmental planning, permitting, TMDL, mitigation design, ecological studies, watershed studies, and NEPA documentation for roadways, aviation, transit systems, toll roads, bicycle/pedestrian facilities, and utility siting studies for local, state, federal, and private clients in the mid-Atlantic region.     Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), CE, CWB, and/or certified/professional wetland delineator certifications or demonstrated track to certification
    Demonstrated experience in the independent conduct of wetland delineations, surveys of Mid-Atlantic regional vascular flora, and regulatory permit application development and regulatory agency coordination required.
    Excellent verbal communication skills

    Strong project management and supervisory skills
