    The Living Classrooms Foundation is a non-profit educational organization in Baltimore, MD that provides hands-on, interdisciplinary learning programs in challenging environments for students of all ages and backgrounds.

    We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals for the positions of:

    SCIENCE EDUCATOR & COOK.

    These individuals must be interested in joining a team of dedicated professionals to work with youth aboard one of our historic Chesapeake Bay workboats – the pungy schooner LADY MARYLAND, and skipjack SIGSBEE. Programs range in length from one-day trips to ten-day extended land/sea expeditions in the waters of Baltimore, the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries as well as off the New England coast.

    Position Requirements
    Qualified applicants must possess a strong commitment to the education of all students, be motivated self-starters, function successfully as part of a team, and maintain a desire to work outdoors in a challenging but fun environment. Education/biology background is preferred, but we will train the right people. Drivers license and clean driving record required. This is a physically demanding job that necessitates a certain amount of physical fitness. 
    Cook is rresponsible for provisioning and providing meals for 6-8 crew during the spring and fall and up to 20 students and crew during extended summer cruises. Successful candidates must be organized and self-motivated. Cook is also encouraged, although not required, to participate in onboard education programs

    Positions are seasonal: available March through mid-November 2017

    yOUR eARTh; The Art of Stewardship

    Artist Greg Mort and the Rosenberg Gallery at Goucher College invite you to respond to the question, What does earth stewardship mean to you?

    Submit a visual answer in the form of a 4” x 6” color photo or digital image. Beginning December 20, 2016, the images collected up until that point will be used to create a large-scale, site-speci c photo collage installation which will continue to expand for the duration of the exhibition through February 22, 2017. This exhibition is being presented in conjunction with the MAEOE conference and the exhibit Greg Mort – eARTh – The Art of Stewardship. An artist talk and reception will be held Friday, February 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Rosenberg Gallery.

    The MAEOE Conference committee is excited to announce some special “extra” events in addition to our conference this winter. We are hosting an exclusive Star Party with Greg Mort on the evening of Friday 2/3/17 at the observatory on the Goucher College Campus.

    On the evening of Saturday 2/4/17 Dave Harp and Tom Horton bring their “Beautiful Swimmers Revisited” to the conference.

    Deckhand/Educator

    Living Classrooms Foundation http://www.livingclassrooms.org based in Baltimore, MD, operates LADY MARYLAND and invites applications for the post of Deckhand. Immediate Opening. We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced candidates for deckhand positions aboard Lady Maryland. We have one opening for a seasonal position (now until November) and two openings for shorter term summer deckhands (June through August). Candidates must be dedicated to education of students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. In the spring and fall, LM runs mostly day trips in Baltimore and on the Chesapeake Bay. In the summer, we travel to New England and offer 9-day liveaboard programs focusing on estuaries and whale ecology. This is a liveaboard position.

Box lunches will be provided by award winning Pit Master, Eric Frase. Eric was a team member of the Kansas City BBQ Team of the Year in 2012 (3 Eyz BBQ) and owner of BBQ and Beyond.     This individual must be interested in joining a team of dedicated professionals to work and live with youth aboard our pungy schooner LADY MARYLAND. Programs are nine-day sea expeditions in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and the New England coast.

    Qualified applicants must possess a strong commitment to the education of all students, be motivated self-starters, function successfully as part of a team, and maintain a desire to work outdoors in a challenging but fun environment. Biology and/or Marine Ecology background is required, no boat experience necessary. Educational experience preferred.  Driver’s license and clean driving record required. This is a physically demanding job that necessitates a certain amount of physical fitness.

    Position is seasonal: available sapproximately 6/13 – 8/22, 2016.

    Living Classrooms is seeking a captain for the spring season to run M/V HALF SHELL (c.1928) on the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers in our Nation’s capital. Half Shell runs day long school programs with students grades 4-12. There are also occasional evening trips. This opening is available IMMEDIATELY and runs until June. USCG 50 ton inland Master license and FCC Marine Radio Operator permit required. All applicants must be dedicated to working with students of all ages backgrounds and abilities.
