    BAYSAVERS LEGISLATIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

In the 2017 legislative session the Chesapeake BaySavers wrote, lobbied for and testified on behalf of House Bill 924. The passing of this bill kept our vital oyster sanctuaries closed to commercial harvest and safe from being depleted. If this bill had passed, it would have jeopardized not only our sanctuaries but also the bill we passed in 2016, The Sustainable Oyster Population and Fisheries Act of 2016. This bill ensured an extensive look at our oyster population to determine a sustainable harvest rate for oysters, help prevent overfishing and improve the monitoring system of the public oyster fishery. If our oyster sanctuaries had been opened up to harvest, the research the DNR completed would not have been accurate.

In the past legislative session we also fought poaching through law enforcement and by working with other nonprofits in order to bring poachers to justice. Additionally, we fought poaching-related legislation that had harmful implications on the Bay through testimonies.

We are looking forward to continuing our initiatives in the 2018 legislation, but we need hardworking and passionate individuals to join our team and fight to save our sanctuaries!

Hey... where's the rest?

As we transfer data from the old platform to the new one, we're taking baby steps. If it seems like something is missing, we'll likely be added it over the next few weeks. If you need something in particular, feel free to ask.
