Guide to the Chesapeake Network
Sign-In:
1. Open internet browser and go to the Chesapeake Watershed Network homepage (www.ChesapeakeNetwork.org)
2. Click on “Sign-In” link in upper right corner
3. Sign-in using your e-mail address and the password provided in your email invitation.
4. We recommend that you do not sign-out at the end of your session. There is no security risk in doing so. This way you can move freely in and out of the site at will and the site can evolve into a seamless extension of your desktop.
Getting Started
1. Sign-in using the instructions shown above. Once you have signed-in, you will be asked to make sure your contact information is up-to-date, and to enter a new password of your choosing.
2. After you sign-in, go to the My Page section, where you can confirm your email address, and complete the brief "bio" section.
Note: You may have been pre-loaded into the system.
3. Once you have changed your password and updated your profile, pay a visit to the "People" section. This will give you a sense of who else is in this community with you and how the people directory works (e.g. finding people by last name, searching for all people in your state).
4. The best way to begin learning your way around is to go to the Getting Started link in the Help menu. This provides an overview of the most commonly used tools such as the people directory, networks and the resource library.
5. Next go the Groups tab. Here you can view the groups that have been set up so far and join any you find of interest.
Here are some more specific things to keep in mind as you get to know the system:
• Under email settings in My Profile, you may choose to receive emails from the system as they are sent throughout the day or in "digest" form once every 24 hours.
• When you upload a file to a resource library, you may select to have the file visible only to the members of the network, or to everyone in the community.
Add a Document to Resource Library
1. From the Group home page (get there by clicking on “My groups” in the upper right and then clicking on the one you want to add documents to) click on the “Resource” link in the left nav bar OR click on the number following the ”Resource Items:” line within the “Network Overview” box.
2. In the “add a new item” list on the upper left click on “Add a Document or Photo.”
3. Click on the “Browse” button and select the file you want to upload from your computer.
a. Fill in the “Enter a Short Description for this File” field (under five words please).
b. Fill in the “Enter a File Summary” field.
c. In the “Enter Tags Field” please enter a few terms that “tag” the document according to its subject matter and relevance; this is very important, as it will maximize the value of the document to the community by making it easy to find by search topics; please remember to separate each keyword with a comma.
d. At the bottom of the page, it asks “Add this File to Other Networks I Belong To”; keeping the boxes checked will allow for other members to benefit from your network’s materials if appropriate.
e. Finally, click on the “Upload File” button at the bottom of the page. Your file is now in the Resource Library!
Create an E-mail for Network Members
1. Go to the network’s main page by clicking on “My Groups” in the upper right and then clicking on the name of the network you want to send a message to.
2. Click on “Post Email to List” under the “Send Email” heading on the mid-left.
a. Fill in the subject line!!!
b. Compose your message in the box provided.
c. Click on the “Send Message” button.
If you have received a message with the name of a network in the subject line you will know this email is associated with a network which you are a member. In this case, you can simply click on the reply button, compose your response, and send in order to reach all other members of the network. You also have several reply options to choose from at the bottom of the email.

Add Picture to Network
Note: It is easier to re-size your picture to fit the site before beginning this process.
To add a picture to a network, you must first upload it to resources section of the site.
In order to add a picture to a network:
1. Cick on “View Resources”
2. Click “add photo or document”
3. Use browse button to find and add picture from your computer, at bottom of same page click the check box next to the network you want you picture or document to appear in
4. Fill in “Description” field and “File Summary” field
5. Click “upload file”
The previous steps create a link to the picture on the network. If you want the picture to appear automatically when people access the network then continue with the following:
6. After uploading the file, the next screen will say file has been uploaded and give you viewing options. Click on “view in new window”
7. Copy the URL from the new window
8. Go to “My groups” and Click on the group you want the photo in
9. Click the edit button under the network title
10. Click the WISIWIG icon “add/insert image” (WISIWIG icons are the row of icons under the “Full Description of Network” section of the Edit Network Basic Information Page)
11. Paste URL from the new window
12. Click “insert”
