If you haven’t seen this yet, check out this week’s blog by Bobby Whitescarver– it is in honor of his buffer which just turned 15 years old.  As Bobby says:

I have some really good news. The riparian buffers on our farm are now fifteen years old. The CRP contracts expire next month. It is truly amazing the difference in the pastures, stream banks, and water since we fenced the cows out in 2004. If you do nothing else, you should at least look at the before and after pictures in this blog post. Most of the trees we planted are over 20 feet tall and are at least six inches in diameter at breast height.

This post has pictures to prove that riparian buffers work for the farmer and for the streams. There are “lessons learned” and hot links to many resources to help get more on the ground.
