The Ditch the Disposables: Awards to Reduce Waste program has only one week left before the application closes! This program is managed by the Chesapeake Bay Trust, in partnership with the District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education. The program seeks to reduce single use plastics and disposable foodware items in the District through a switch to reusables, as well as reducing food waste within schools. Funds can be spent on items that support those goals, including the purchase of reusable dishes, dishwashers, contracting a third party reusable foodware program, reusable foodware for takeout, and food waste reduction in schools. Requests are up to $25,000 and applications are due on Friday, May 6, at 6 pm EDT. To be eligible, entities must be physically located in the District and serve food or support school food.

This deadline is fast approaching! Learn more and apply on the Ditch the Disposables page. The Trust recently also held a workshop on information regarding the program, which can be viewed here.
