Join Scenic Rivers Land Trust for our only fall 2023 Healthy Forests Workday at Bacon Ridge Natural Area in Crownsville.

This weekend: Sunday, October 22 (10 am to noon)

The spring 2023 season of our Healthy Forests: Invasive Plant Removal Program at Bacon Ridge Natural Area was a huge success—but we still need your help!

We’re hosting one more Healthy Forest workday this year. It’s coming up this weekend (Sunday 10/22) and we’d love to see you! Fall is a perfect time to spend a couple of hours taking care of the forest we all love.

Since 2020, Scenic Rivers has worked to protect the long-term vitality of Bacon Ridge—our largest conservation easement—through this program.

Invasive plants threaten the health of the forests and natural lands we are working so hard to conserve—from invasive shrubs that shade out native understory plants to invasive vines that can choke and pull down towering native canopy trees.

Thanks to community support we have been able to remove nearly 4,000 lbs of invasive vines, shrubs, and grasses across 15 acres of the natural area, clearing the way for a sustainable, healthy forest for the entire community to enjoy.

Dedicated volunteers have been the backbone of this program. This spring, over 100 volunteers put in a combined 200+ hours of work to improve the long-term health of Bacon Ridge Natural Area.

And yet, there is still so much to do.

Register to join us for our last public workday of 2023:

Spending a couple hours improving the health of your local, protected forest by removing harmful plants is a fantastic way to give back.

We’d love your help!

If this sounds like fun to you, make plans to join us this weekend—and don’t forget to invite a friend. Removing invasive plants is a big job and we need as much help as we can get.

Registering in advance is greatly appreciated. We need at least 5 registered volunteers to proceed with the workday.

We can’t wait see you out on the trails this weekend!
