Are you looking to gain hands-on fieldwork experience? Are you passionate about science and conservation? Then we need your help to plant one of North America’s largest tree restoration experiments!
The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) in Edgewater, MD, is planting 33,000 trees and shrubs this spring, and we can’t do it alone!
We need your help us so that we can find out which species combos set forests up for success. No prior experience necessary. All training provided.
You’ll gain fieldwork experience, meet Smithsonian scientists, and contribute to important research!
Eligibility Criteria:
- At least 18 years old
- Attend in-person training session in February (2/19 or 2/20), 10 am – 12pm
- Commit to volunteering one full day a week, Monday – Friday, in March and first two weeks of April
- Comfortable being uncomfortable outside in the cold, heat, wind and rain
- Able to move over uneven terrain and do repetitive reaching/bending
