The National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) is excited to announce several upcoming opportunities for students to engage with the marine science community, share their research, and secure funding for their education and conservation efforts.

1. Call for Student Presenters: Student Day at NMEA 2026

We invite students ages 13 and up to present their work at the annual conference in Cambridge, MD, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to build your resume and connect with marine professionals.

  • In-Person (Lightning Session): A fast-paced 7-minute presentation for those attending on-site.
  • Asynchronous (Pre-recorded): A 15–30 minute video for students who cannot attend in person.
  • Important Dates: The call for presenters is open through May 1, 2026.
  • More Info: NMEA 2026 Student Day Details

2. NMEA Student Scholarship

  • Deadline: Applications are open through April 1, 2026.
  • Eligibility: Must be a current NMEA student member.

3. NMEA Student Conservation Project Grants

Are you leading a project in your community? We provide grants of up to $250 to support student-driven marine education, conservation, or research projects.

  • Eligibility: Applicants must be NMEA student members between the ages of 13–18.

Important Information on Membership & Fees

To apply for the scholarship or conservation grant, you must be an NMEA student member. You can join NMEA and immediately become eligible to apply for these opportunities. Please visit the NMEA Membership Page for information on how to join or request a sponsored membership.

Note on Student Day at NMEA Conference Scholarships

Please be aware that Student Day at NMEA registration scholarships will be announced soon. These are specifically intended to help cover the costs of attending the conference and are separate from the NMEA Student Scholarship mentioned above, which is dedicated to academic and technical training.
