The National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) is holding a Virtual Student Conference on July 16th from 8:00-11:00am Hawai’i Time / 2:00-5:00pm Eastern Time. The conference is open to full-time students, ages 13 and up. Any full-time student, age 13 and up, can participate, but the schedule focuses on students ages 13-20. Registration is free, and NMEA membership is not required.
The conference includes a special invited speaker, Kalani Quiocho, Cultural Advisor for the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. There will also be a career panel including Carlee Jackson, Graduate Student at Nova Southeastern University and Marine Turtle Specialist at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, Patty Miller, Education Coordinator, Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, Celeste Parry, Graduate Student at Miami University and Animal Records & Clinical Research Supervisor for the National Marine Mammal Foundation, and Lindsay Young, Graduate Student at San Francisco State University. Student presenters will also join the conference line up, presenting on personal projects like reducing the environmental impact of fast fashion, the invasive green crab crisis, caffeine absorption by algae, and monitoring waste at boat landings. The conference will conclude with opportunities for networking with students from all over the country and even internationally.
