The Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and Maryland Coastal Bays Program are hosting a two-day National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation (NNOCCI) workshop. NNOCCI aims to change the national conversation around climate change to be positive, civic-minded, and solutions-focused. We use evidence-based communications methods, provide social-emotional support, and employ the latest climate science findings and apply them in our institutions.
At the end of the workshop participants will understand: (1) The shared mission of NNOCCI, (2) Some basic climate science principles as outlined in the latest US Climate Assessment (3), Why we need to change the climate story, and (4) How to frame a story with tone, values, explanatory metaphors, and solutions.
The workshop will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on March 3 and March 4. Please plan to attend both days. While this workshop is geared towards educators (formal and informal), it provides useful skills for anyone in a public facing role who may find themselves talking about climate change.
***Registration closes on February 17th.
