Join Shepherdstown area arborist and forest therapy guide, Shawn Walker, to learn about trees along the C&O Canal. We will encounter upland communities as well as trees along the edge of the Potomac and discuss approaches to identifying these trees as they transition from winter to spring.

We will also discuss the importance of the Potomac River and what we all can do to protect this valuable natural resource. The river provides wildlife habitat, recreation, and drinking water for over 5 million people.

The pace will be slow to moderate over varied terrain, with some rocky and steep conditions in various spots.

We will meet at 1:45 outside the Ferry Hill Plantation Visitor Center at 16500 Shepherdstown Pike, Sharpsburg, MD 21782. Please note that this is just the meeting spot. The visitor center is permanently closed.

Expect to walk about 3 miles on moderate terrain. Trail can be rocky in some places. Please bring your own water bottle, snacks, and bug-spray (if needed).

This event is free but please RSVP via the Eventbrite link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/walk-in-the-woods-shepherdstown-co-canal-tickets-96087717951
