Come join us at the Howard County Conservancy on Saturday, November 1st at 10am to learn about establishing native meadows from guest speaker Lisa Kuder, UMD’s Native Plants & Landscapes Extension Specialist.

Native meadows provide vital habitat for pollinators and birds, improve soil and water health, and require less maintenance than turf. Practical guidance will be shared on how to establish a successful native meadow—from site preparation and seed selection to planting techniques and ongoing management. Participants will learn strategies for overcoming common challenges, such as weed competition, and how to foster a thriving, self-sustaining landscape that benefits both people and nature. After the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to walk to the meadow restoration project at Mt. Pleasant.

Lisa Kuder has nearly a decade of experience working with various stakeholders, including the Maryland Department of Transportation, on natural regeneration of meadows. As UMD’s Native Plants & Landscapes Extension Specialist, she works with both industry and the general public on increasing the availability and use of native plants. She has masters degrees in entomology and environmental biology. A fun fact about Lisa is that before joining UME, she was a HS chemistry teacher.
