Experience Ken Burns‘ documentary series, The American Revolution, from the oldest building at the Smithsonian! The 1735 Woodlawn History Center, located at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, Maryland, will host four screenings of the documentary throughout July and August. Each screening features a different set of clips from the series, curated by Maryland Public Television. Before or after the screening, you can also explore the exhibits inside the historic home.

Wednesday, July 8, 6:30pm-7:30pm – Spirit of Service and Voices & Visions
Discover how the spirit of service evolved in American culture, and get a glimpse of art, music and literature from the Revolutionary era.
A live reading of the Declaration of Independence will precede this screening at 6:00pm. Sign up separately to join the Declaration reading.
Saturday, July 11, 2-3pm – Continental
The Continental screening brings to life the stories of the American Revolution, exploring the ideas and conflicts that ignited independence and the struggles and sacrifices of soldiers, women and Native and African American allies. It reveals how this pivotal period shaped not just the original Thirteen Colonies, but the future of the entire continent.
Saturday, Aug. 8, 2-3pm – Faith & Freedom in America and Revolutionary Youth
In Faith & Freedom in America, explore religion and religious diversity in the 18th century and discover how faith shaped the nation’s early history. In Revolutionary Youth, learn how young people lived, contributed, and participated in the War for Independence.
Saturday, Aug. 15, 2-3pm – Military History
Get a closer look at the tactics, leadership and conflicts that shaped the Revolutionary War.
