Experience the powerful legacy of Harriet Tubman in a moving journey across the landscapes that shaped her life and mission. In partnership with the Harriet Tubman Freedom Center for Education & Cultural Advancement, Underground Underwater: Harriet Tubman Freedom Center Tour Around Dorchester County invites participants to explore Dorchester County on a guided bus tour tracing the routes and stories of the Underground Railroad.

This immersive experience reveals how Tubman skillfully navigated the region’s rivers, marshes, and forests in her efforts to lead others to freedom. Along the way, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how the natural environment served as both refuge and route — and how changes to that landscape, including the impacts of climate change, are reshaping these historic spaces today.

The experience concludes with a homemade barbecue meal at the Harriet Tubman Freedom Center, which stands as a radiant tribute to courage, resilience, and the unbreakable human spirit. More than a museum, it is a living sanctuary where history, and community converge to honor the legacy of a woman who risked everything to lead others toward freedom.
