M-NCPPC’s Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s county will be working on some volunteer invasive plant removal efforts on our parklands. Our first opportunity will be Thurs Aug 14th from 9:00-11:00am at Cosca Regional Park in Clinton, MD.
Cosca is a large park with some important rare plant habitat that is being threatened by invasive autumn olive. We’re hoping to get a crew together to pull out the smaller olive shrubs with Weed Wrenches and have the larger ones cut and removed from the site. Our staff will be on-site treating the cut stumps. No experience is needed, and we’ll provide all of the tools you need.
If you haven’t been to the site, Cosca has a TON of great hiking trails and some potential old growth around parts of the park. It’s one of our hidden gems. Not only does it have nice trails (and a great spring wildflower display) but also a cool nature center and programs to boot.
For those interested in joining in, please sign up via our volunteer opportunity page here: https://pgparks.samaritan.com/custom/1543/opp_details/232245 It is the first opportunity on the page, but you are also welcome to check out others, too.
