Join our growing network of passionate weed warriors working to restore and protect our parks.
Are you ready to take action against invasive plants in our local parks? The Weed Warrior Online Training is the first step in becoming a certified Level 1 Weed Warrior Volunteer with the Department of Parks and Recreation.
This required two-hour Zoom presentation will introduce you to the basics of invasive plant ecology, explain why controlling invasive vines is vital to the health of our native ecosystems, and clarify the important role Weed Warrior volunteers play in protecting our green spaces. You’ll learn how to safely identify and manage six priority invasive vine species, with expert guidance to help you build your field confidence.
Completion of this online training is one of three certification requirements to become a Level 1 Weed Warrior. In addition to the Zoom session, you must also participate in:
- two invasive removal events and
- attend a one-time in-person field training.
Once certified, you’ll be empowered to remove six key invasive vine species independently on DPR-managed lands.
This volunteer opportunity is approved for Prince George’s County Public School’s student service learning hours.
