Join Rock Creek Conservancy for a virtual panel on Race, History, and Rock Creek, exploring the historical connections between D.C.’s Black cemeteries and the Underground Railroad. This conversation will be moderated by award-winning author Lauret Savoy. Historian C.R. Gibbs will explore Holy Rood Cemetery’s ties to the Underground Railroad; Lisa Fager, Executive Director of the Black Georgetown Foundation, will discuss Mount Zion Cemetery’s role; and Mary Belcher, a founding member of the grassroots Walter Pierce Park Archaeology Project, will highlight Mt. Pleasant Plains Cemetery, a recognized National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site.
