Help Newly Planted Trees Grow Into Healthy Forests!

The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC), a Baltimore County-based land trust and watershed restoration organization, is seeking individuals and volunteer groups to spend several hours making our reforestation projects a success.

Tree Maintenance involves removing invasive plants, checking planted trees to see if the shelter needs to be removed and removing if necessary, digging out the planting tube, and making sure the plant is upright. Community service learning hours available. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old.

EVENT INFO

When: Saturday May 25, 2019 from 10 am  – 1 pm. Please arrive 15 minutes early so you can sign in and receive tools.

What to bring: Wear long pants, long sleeved shirt and closed-toed shoes (boots are best). Bring a hat and a filled water bottle.

Driving directions: BeeTree Preserve in northern Baltimore County. Follow I-83N to exit 33 (MD 45N York Road). From off ramp, turn left onto York Road north. Turn left onto Kauffman Road and continue on road through a 3-way intersection with a stop sign. You will see a cemetery on your left. Continue past that to the second pavilion on your left. This is where you will park. The event leader, Kim Peabody, will meet you there. Look for a black Prius. There may be a 10-15 minute walk to the site carrying tools and supplies. We will be crossing a small creek to get to the tree maintenance area. Please wear knee-high waterproof boots or closed toe shoes you don’t mind getting wet, like water shoes or old tennis shoes. We suggest you bring with you another pair of closed toe work shoes/boots and a dry pair of socks to wear while you are working.

Questions? Contact Kim Peabody, Tree Maintenance Coordinator, by email or at 410-570-9850.

Interested but can’t make this volunteer event? The GVC will offer Tree Maintenance events most weekends throughout the summer. Visit our full calendar of events for additional dates.
