July 8 commemorates the first public reading of the Declaration 250 years ago. Attendees can choose to participate or simply listen. We will read the document from the front porch of the oldest building in the Smithsonian’s collection, the 1735 Woodlawn History Center.

A screening of the Ken Burns documentary The American Revolution will follow the Declaration reading. If you wish to attend the film screening, please sign up separately there is enough seating.
