The Maryland Coastal Bays Program (MCBP) is accepting applications for 1-2 paid seasonal positions starting in April 2026. This is a unique internship opportunity that will be split between Assateague Island National Seashore (ASIS) and MCBP.

The Maryland Coastal Bays Program and National Park Service (NPS) are seeking 1-2 qualified applicants for an environmental science internship. We are looking for a highly motivated upper-level undergraduate or recent graduate majoring in environmental science/studies, earth science, marine science, environmental education, wildlife conservation, or other related fields. This position will run for roughly 24 weeks at 40 hours a week from April through September but exact start and end dates are flexible. This position is a seasonal one with no benefits and pays $20/hr with the potential for a housing stipend. Shared dormitory-style housing at ASIS is available for rent if needed by the candidate(s).

The selected candidate(s) will split their time working with MCBP’s science team and NPS staff.  A mentor from each organization will be assigned to the candidate for guidance on work tasks and scheduling. The candidate(s) will predominantly be working outside in various field and weather conditions including working on boats at times. Therefore, they must be comfortable working outside for long periods of time in a variety of conditions, including extreme temperatures and biting insects. Work will consist of a variety of duties, including tidal wetland surveys, assisting with water quality monitoring, performing vegetation and wildlife surveys, and data entry and analysis. Additional opportunities may include assisting with colonial nesting bird monitoring, horseshoe crab surveys, restoration projects, and environmental education and outreach programs.
