Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the C&O Canal National Historical Park are seeking an intern who will work with volunteers in the areas of trail and facility maintenance, as well as invasive plant removal projects. The project will also promote Leave No Trace principles and assist in coordinating trash cleanup projects.

Position Responsibilities will include:

  • Engage in community outreach to promote stewardship
  • Assist in recruiting new volunteers and coordinating existing volunteers
  • Assist in developing & updating training for volunteers
  • Work with park partners to engage volunteers Represent the park at local and regional events to make connections in the communities
  • Highlight volunteer contributions through park social media
  • Assist in planning volunteer appreciation events Record, organize, and analyze volunteer program statistics to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend future program objectives

Minimum Requirements:

  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Comfortable with public speaking and community engagement
  • Strong organization skills
  • Social media content development experience
