This position provides analytical support, innovative technical problem solving and expert consultation for statewide coastal and inland climate change resiliency, restoration and conservation planning and implementation in Maryland’s Coastal Zone. The incumbent will develop GIS-based or other decision support tools, training programs and communication materials to promote the use of best available and emerging climate science by local, state and regional decision makers. Priorities are given to developing and maintaining state-wide sea-level rise mapping, modeling, and monitoring products to give state and local governments the right tools to anticipate and plan for sea-level rise, coastal flooding and climate change. This will support implementation of Maryland’s Coast Smart siting and design criteria and other climate resiliency program applications.

Duties include:
● Coordinate and develop assessments, decision support tools, information and reports, focused on sea-level rise, coastal flooding and climate change to support state and local government programs and the Maryland Coast Smart Council.
● Direct, coordinate and develop analytical approaches to assess inland flooding hazards and to guide comprehensive resiliency strategies that rely on natural and nature-based features.
● Develop and deliver training programs and provide expert consultation to support internal and external (local and state agencies, NGOs, others) resiliency planning initiatives.
● Represent the Department and unit’s interests on local, statewide and regional initiatives, provide timely and responsive customer service and perform other duties as assigned.
