In partnership with the Stewards Individual Placements Program and Americorps, the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay Office is hiring a Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) – Bilingual Youth Coordinator to help us connect with Latinx youth and families. The CVA would develop and train a youth volunteer corps to engage with and capture the stories of Latinx communities in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This means building relationships with students and universities, creating outreach programs, and advising on strategic communications with our partner, Corazon Latino. This will be a fun, dynamic position with a diverse team and a flexible work schedule. Paid opportunity. The CVA will work closely with an innovative team of NPS and partnership staff to build relationships with Minority Serving Institutions, execute strategic communications within Latinx watershed communities, and create programs and resources that both promote environmentalism while also meeting community needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish relationships with Minority Serving Institutions
  • Train a “volunteer corps” of college students to collect and map community stories in target Chesapeake areas
  • Participate in community events
  • Coordinate culturally intentional stewardship events, including Junior Ranger Day
  • Research and translation assistance as needed (English/Spanish)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Independent, affable, and outgoing Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing
  • Public speaking or customer service experience
  • Experience engaging with diverse communities
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Between the ages of 18-30 years old (35 years old if you are a veteran)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • Submit proof of a Driver’s License and undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • College club/association/volunteer experience
  • Graduate of a Minority Serving Institution
  • Experience engaging with college age students and/or families
  • Attention to detail in all aspects of the duties and responsibilities

 

Employment details:

  • Length: position is 50 weeks, 40 hours/week
  • Start Date: Monday, February 8th 2021
  • Living Allowance: Baseline allowance of $440/week + up to $80 for housing
  • AmeriCorps Education Award: $6,095 (pretax)
