Veteran Compost is looking for a full-time production facility operator/manager for our facility near MT Vernon, VA. This is a great opportunity in the environmental area for someone that wants to work as part of a Veteran team. We value a strong work ethic, customer service focus and effective communications. Individual’s primary duties include: Assist with on-site production tasks, including: Compost and worm casting production as well as assist with other on-farm operations and driver support.
Additional duties will include: Helping on site with composting by emptying bins, assist with compost system maintenance, cleaning bins at composting site in Fairfax County.
Work hours: Normal work hours 9 am to 5 pm, but we are flexible to the 8 hours schedule.
No Sales involved. Full time position, 40 hours per week. Must be able to lift 70 pounds and work outdoors.
The position starts at an initial wage level of $22 per hour during training, and will move to $23 after you are successfully operating independently. If the employee shows aptitude and passes the state composting certification, there is a strong opportunity for a facility management position which will pay $25 per hour. There is opportunity for achievement related bonuses with regular wage rate increases based on performance and experience. In addition, we offer the opportunity to participate in our employer matched retirement plan.
Requirements: Must have the legal ability to work in the United States. Must possess valid Driver’s License, proof of insurance, state produced driving record with no record of police issued moving violations or accidents in the past 12 months. 5 days per week, Monday thru Friday, 40 hours a week is expected. Must have independent transportation to get to and from work.
Employee must be familiar with simple tractors and skid steers and have the ability to use and maintain them after instruction and training.
Veteran Compost is an established and certified composting company in Washington, DC and Aberdeen, MD. We employ Veterans and Veteran family members in a variety of composting roles including on the farm, food scrap collection and residential and commercial sales. Our goal is reducing organic waste and repairing soil in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia by using Maryland state and industry approved composting methods. Our food scrap collection drivers are the key to the process by collecting food scrap ingredients for our composting process.
