NATURE SACRED SEEKS A NEW DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Nature Sacred, a small operating foundation nonprofit in Annapolis, MD, dedicated to the creation of community-led, contemplative green spaces nation-wide, is seeking a Development Manager. The Development Manager will be a key team member, assisting in achieving Nature Sacred’s mission to inspire and support the creation of public greenspaces that offer a temporary place of sanctuary, encourage reflection, provide solace, and engender peace and well-being. For nearly 25 years, Nature Sacred has partnered with over 130 communities across the country to infuse nearby nature into places where healing is often needed most:  distressed urban neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, prisons and more.

The Development Manager (DM) is responsible for management and support of four major areas of fundraising activities: individual giving, institutional/government giving, board relations, and event planning.  The DM works closely with the CEO, Chairman of the Board and Development Consultant to maintain and expand these four major areas.

 

INDIVIDUAL GIVING

The Development Manager actively works to support the CEO, Board of Directors, and Development Consultant in Nature Sacred’s comprehensive Individual Giving strategy to build process, pipeline, stewardship, and cultivation practices. The DM provides the primary organizational support to keep the organization’s significant Individual Giving contacts connected, engaged and involved through major donor and annual appeal initiatives for general and program-specific support. The DM works with program and marketing/outreach staff and consultants to ensure consistent donor messaging and effective use of all communication vehicles (e-based, social media etc.) through which to engage individuals.

 

INSTITUTIONAL/GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

The Development Manager maintains a calendar of grant deadlines and prepares drafts of grants for review by the CEO and Development Consultant. The DM processes all institutional grant awards and payments that are received. The DM is also responsible for ghostwriting correspondence to current and prospective funders. The DM keeps up-to-date information on current funders and researches prospective funders, keeps track of information internally disseminated about Nature Sacred programming and initiatives.

 

BOARD RELATIONS

The Development Manager is responsible for attending all board meetings and drafting minutes, as well as preparing packet materials and any information for presentations. The DM also generally serves as a liaison to the Board, as appropriate.

 

EVENT PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION

The DM is responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of major fundraising and donor cultivation events/receptions and other event activities.

 

MISCELLANEOUS

The DM is an important player on Nature Sacred’s staff and is responsible for attending weekly staff and departmental meetings, and working with internal staff and external consultants on a regular basis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of fundraising experience, an understanding of community-based and/or environmental or social justice issues and/or healthcare, and the ability to work with a small administrative team. Grantwriting experience is deeply preferred; knowledge and/or experience with government grants and CRM systems is also preferred. Candidates should possess quick problem-solving skills, an ability to interact with funders/donors, industry representatives, and administrators, and an aptitude for maintaining systems to efficiently manage a multitude of situations.

Salary is commensurate with experience and includes health and dental benefits, which are paid 100% by Nature Sacred. Typical office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – the position’s duties may require additional evening and weekends hours as needed for events, staff retreats, etc. Will consider hybrid in-office and remote work schedule.
