Full-time Position Announcement: Environmental Communications Associate

Green Fin Studio has an immediate opening for an Environmental Communications Associate. We are a full-service environmental communication firm that works at the intersection of strategy, science, and creative media. We deliver products, campaigns, and ongoing services to help environmental messages connect with target audiences. Our work spans habitat restoration, environmental protection, climate change, sustainable food development, ocean and coastal management, fisheries management, science and technology, and more of our world’s most complex challenges.

This position is based in Richmond, Virginia; while we are currently working remotely, many of our local/regional clients require us onsite.

Our new full-time Environmental Communications Associate will be part of our creative team and be tasked with supporting communication and outreach efforts for our diverse, environmentally-focused client base. In addition to serving our clients, the Environmental Communications Associate will develop and implement strategies to expand and update Green Fin Studio’s own communication materials on our website, social media, and print materials, as well as track and evaluate performance metrics. This position includes both creative and administrative responsibilities, as described below.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated creativity and enthusiasm for communicating science and/or environmental topics across a variety of media. The Environmental Communications Associate will translate scientific and technical information into accessible messages and graphics (including infographics), develop engaging layouts for various media and communication products, identify opportunities for communications and messaging, and be proactive in identifying and employing communication and engagement tools and platforms.

Tasks

The Environmental Communications Specialist will be asked to approach complex topics and use a combination of skills to create clear and engaging storytelling. Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Support development of environmental communication projects by ideating new approaches, running online research and literature reviews, speaking with experts and stakeholders, and sharing innovative ideas
  • Create new content for websites, blogs, newsletter articles, presentations, social media posts, etc.
  • Graphic design and layout
  • WordPress web edits (must be comfortable with backend maintenance)
  • Administrative tasks of meeting organization, agenda development, meeting minutes, calendar invites, internal reporting, etc.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have demonstrated experience in tasks and skills listed above.  At a minimum, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of similar experience or a Master’s degree in a related field and at least one year of similar experience. Candidates must also be able and willing to work in/near Richmond, Virginia to participate in in-person meetings and eventually return to an office setting.
