JOB SUMMARY

The mission of the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) is to protect and restore the environment, conserve natural resources, and improve the quality of life in the District of Columbia. As the nation’s capital city, the District will become a model of environmental protection and sustainable environmental practices. In partnership with other District agencies, the federal government, business groups, non-profit organizations, and residents, the department will help instill environmental awareness through innovation and best practices.

Serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist in the Restoration Branch, Watershed Protection Division, Natural Resources Administration, Department of Energy and Environment.  The mission of the Watershed Protection Division is to conserve the soil and water resources of the District of Columbia and protect its watersheds from nonpoint source pollution. The incumbent serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist with responsibilities of performing stormwater audits as a part of the RiverSmart Homes program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position requires working with homeowners while conducting stormwater audits, explaining techniques to control nonpoint source pollution, effectively communicating the benefits of lot-level stormwater practices, suggesting the appropriate best management practices, entering information into a GIS-based tracking system, and coordinating with grantees and contractors to ensure that stormwater practices are installed appropriately. A background in environmental science, ecology, or a related field is desired.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION

A valid Driver’s License is required.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is covered under the collective bargaining unit represented by AFGE Local 2725 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee (dues) through direct payroll deduction.
