Job Description:

Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for a full time Environmental Specialist (ES) or Senior Environmental Specialist (SES) in the Environmental Dredging and Restoration Group located at Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island, an environmental restoration project, located in the Chesapeake Bay in Talbot County, Maryland. Primary responsibilities for this position include fieldwork (water quality sampling, monitoring and invasive control), operation of site crew and sampling vessels, writing and formatting technical reports and meeting summaries, outreach activities, data review and compilation, and other support tasks as required. The ES/SES will be required to drive to field sites or labs to fulfill sampling/monitoring requirements and to ride to and from the project site on a crew vessel. This position may require periods of extended day or night shift work (12 hours shifts) on occasion.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology or a related field from an accredited college or university plus one year of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management. Applicants may substitute an applicable advanced education degree for the required experience. The SES position requires a minimum of 3 years of related work experience in addition to educational requirements. One year of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to other professional and technical staff. An applicable advanced degree may be substituted for up to two years of experience. Must have a valid driver’s license with less than 5 points.

Preferred qualifications include:

Must be fluent in MS Office Word, Excel, and Power Point. Preferred to have knowledge of water quality sampling, permits, and chain of custody. Experience in invasive control including herbicide spraying, wetland and tree plant identification skills, fish and mosquito identification skills preferred. Proven experience with drafting and/or writing technical reports and data management a plus. Experience or willingness to drive a 4WD vehicle, various field equipment and boats, and be able to work in various weather and field conditions. Possession of a Maryland safe boater certificate.

Estimated Pay Range:

$39,828.36 – $76,669.23
