Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an Environmental Specialist (classification dependent on education/experience) within the Technical and Environmental Services Group supporting projects for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) Environmental Review Program (ERP) office in Annapolis, MD. This position will provide environmental and public lands reviews for Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects. This position may require field site visits state-wide and work in various office locations including the MES headquarters in Millersville, MD or various MDOT offices throughout the state. The ideal candidate will have strong working knowledge of GIS, environmental permitting, and an ability to understand and evaluate how transportation construction projects impact natural resources.

 

Estimated Pay Range:

EST: $41,818.89 – $57,501.51

ES: $46,001.76 – $63,251.72

Senior ES: $50,601.10 – $69,577.03

Senior ES II: $55,661.62 – $76,534.73

Lead ES: $61,228.06 – $84,188.41

Senior Lead ES: $67,350.73 – $92,607.25

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum education requirements for each classification include a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology or a related field from an accredited college or university, plus:

  • Environmental Specialist Trainee – no experience required beyond Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • Environmental Specialist one year of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management.
  • Senior Environmental Specialist –  three years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management.  One year of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to professional and technical staff.
  • Senior Environmental Specialist II – four years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management.  Two years of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to professional and technical staff.
  • Lead Environmental Specialist – five years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management.  Two years of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to professional and technical staff.
  • Senior Lead Environmental Specialist – six years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management.  Three years of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to professional and technical staff.  A master’s degree is preferred.

 

Applicants may substitute an applicable advanced education degree for up to two years of required experience. Must have a valid driver’s license with less than 5 points.
