The National Park Service’s Inventory and Monitoring Program, National Capital Region Network (NCRN) office, is recruiting Biological Science Technicians to work on the 2020 NCRN Forest Vegetation Monitoring crew.

The primary responsibilities of these seasonal positions include:

  • collection of field data concerning plant ecology in 11 National Park Service units in and around Washington, DC.
  • installation and maintenance of permanent forest monitoring plots; navigation to remote field sites using global positioning system (GPS) technologies, maps, and a compass; measurement of trees, shrubs, herbs, ferns, sedges, and grasses; description of forest canopy and habitat characteristics; collection of GPS and photo point data; and identification and collection of plant specimens.
  • data entry, basic manipulation, and implementation of quality control procedures will be required. There may also be opportunities to assist with report writing, data analysis, and presentation preparation.
