ORGANIZING JOBS WITH IMPACT

Impact is a team of organizers that works on behalf of groups like PIRG and Environment America.

We work on campaigns for our environment, our democracy and our future. Our partner groups already have researchers, policy analysts and lobbyists working together on these campaigns. But research and lobbying aren’t always enough to get things done in American politics. It takes organizing.

WHAT ORGANIZERS DO

When faced with resistance to change, often the only way you can win is to get lots of people to join together in taking the right action at the right time. That’s what organizers do. And in so doing, they lay the groundwork for more positive change by recruiting, mobilizing and empowering new coalitions and constituencies.

WHAT IMPACT ORGANIZERS DO

Impact organizers go to the places that often decide whether a campaign will be won or lost. It could be a state that’s home to a swing-vote senator on critical legislation. It could be a city where a key decision is being made about clean energy.

By engaging the media, building new coalitions and activating civic leaders or student activists, our organizers not only help win campaigns now — we set the stage for winning the next campaign, too.

For example, when PIRG wanted to protect public health by reducing the overuse of antibiotics in the food industry, they brought in the Impact team. We organized doctors and nurses, small farmers, parents and consumers to convince Subway to take action. It worked. And the same coalition persuaded KFC to act as well.

During the summer, you direct a campaign office, building our partner organizations by canvassing and training others to canvass. In the summer of 2017, we defended our environmental and consumer protections from White House and congressional attempts to dismantle them.

With Impact, you make a difference now; the work you do builds the power we need to win more victories; and you gain the experience that PIRG, Environment America and other groups look for when hiring new advocates and campaign directors.

If you can see yourself next year organizing to make a difference for our environment, our democracy and our future, apply to join the Impact team.
