The CBMM’s Guest Services function encompasses admissions and membership sales, customer service, retail sales, marina operations, and security. As part of the front-line Guest Services Team, CBMM’s Marina Associates are responsible for monitoring marina and docking operations; ensuring that all Docking Members and visitors are greeted, assisted, engaged, and informed about CBMM.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Dockmaster with CBMM’s marina operations, including accepting overnight docking reservations, assigning slips, handling dock lines, monitoring day-docking activities, assisting with pump-out procedures, and proactively attending to the needs of our boating members.
- Understanding of docking space configurations available to boaters and comprehension of boat dimensions including length, beam, and draft.
- Responsible for safely and efficiently guiding boaters to reserved slips, assisting them with tie up, shore-power and water, and ensuring they are supplied with a boater’s guide and aware of etiquette requirements, points of departure, and re-entry to CBMM’s grounds.
- Stay up to date with current marina practices and services offered; ensure that the CBMM’s marina policies and practices meet the Clean Marina protocol.
- Carry out radio transmissions to and from boaters approaching CBMM.
- Stay up to date on the weather and tides
- Monitor docked vessels and report any adverse issues.
- Proactively and cheerfully greet visitors as they enter the South Entrance, and efficiently check in boaters, process payments, and sell admission tickets and memberships.
- Accurately provide daily cash, credit, and admissions records for the Finance Department. Ensure that all income correctly reconciles with the system’s records daily.
- Ability to communicate & sell CBMM’s Membership offerings to guests and effectively communicate CBMM’s Member Benefits
- Maintain cleanliness of CBMM’s entrance courtyard and South Entrance, as well as proactively attending to any litter found on the grounds or in exhibit buildings.
- Assume such other duties as are necessary for the operation of the Museum or as assigned by the Marina and Guest Services Manager.
This is a seasonal, non-exempt, part-time position with an expected work schedule ranging 15-25 hours per week during the months of April-November. Total number of hours worked each week will vary depending upon the number of anticipated visitors, weather conditions, and peak visitor weekends. Guest Services staff are expected to work weekends and holidays and must be present for all CBMM festivals unless otherwise arranged with the Guest Services & Marina Manager.
Core Requirements:
- 1-2 years’ experience in a marina setting
- Experience with handling dock lines
- VHF Radio communication skills
- Excellent customer service and organization skills
- Ability to interact with the public in a proactive, positive, and enthusiastic manner
- Ability to multi-task and maintain professional composure in a fast-paced environment
- Successful completion of the boater’s safety course
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more at a time
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains
