Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for a Senior Survey Technician to help support our projects with Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) in Baltimore, Maryland.

The primary role of the selected candidate will be to provide technical support in performing Deed and Plat Research for SHA owned properties in order to support TMDL restoration projects. The selected candidate may also be required to assist with field data collection (overnight travel within MD is a possibility), provide support in performing surveys under the direction of the surveying staff, to investigate land surfaces and provide accurate locations of lines, angles, points, areas and elevations, as well as assist with construction stakeout, and other survey related field and office operations and applications.

Required qualifications for this position include: A Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Engineering, or other relevant fields.  Alternatively, a HS Diploma or GED, plus 4 years of experience in the area of design, construction, engineering, surveying, computerized drafting, environmental services or maintenance. A Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT), Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS) certificate, or an Associate’s degree in Survey, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Geo-technical or other generally recognized field of engineering or survey from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience. Certification by the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) as a Certified Survey Technician may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Preferred qualifications include: the ability to use Surveying and GIS software(s) such as CAD and ArcMap for computing, analyzing, or plotting property boundaries (deed mosaics), the basic understanding of performing deed and boundary research, the ability to read and interpret legal descriptions, metes & bounds, easements, boundary surveys, right-of-way plats, and other legal documentation describing land, real property, or real estate.
