Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT) is seeking a creative and energetic Communications Coordinator to expand our audience through digital content, traditional and social media, and events. This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial self-starter who loves the outdoors and seeks to play a pivotal role in a fun, small and scrappy nonprofit – and, in the process, build their career and experience across various communications disciplines. The communications coordinator reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the entire staff team to support fundraising and land conservation initiatives.

NVCT is a growing regional land trust that conserves parks, open space and nature throughout northern Virginia at the doorstep of our nation’s capital. The organization seeks to become the region’s leader in creating an interconnected system of green spaces, with a goal that all urban and suburban residents of Northern Virginia will live and have access to parks, trails, or protected natural areas. The organization is also committed to becoming more diverse and inclusive as it expands its audience and impact to support all area residents.

General Position Description:

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for all of NVCT’s external communications. Responsibilities include managing, writing and producing the annual report, drafting and emailing newsletters to members, creating innovative digital content, and building relationships with reporters. The Coordinator will work with the Executive Director, NVCT staff, and members of the Board to advance NVCT’s goals and engage with funders, partners, and target audiences. The Coordinator will also be responsible for supporting events, whenever they resume. Finally, the Coordinator will play a key role in telling NVCT’s story to Northern Virginia residents who hopefully feel a new appreciation for their local parks as social distancing remains a way of life for many.
