Environmental Concern (EC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1972 to respond to the dramatic loss of wetlands and shoreline habitat in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. EC’s Native Plant Nursery staff is passionate about sowing, growing, and maintaining plants for EC’s restoration projects and selling to companies working on similar projects in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Our nursery is a leading grower and supplier of native wetland and upland plants, and delivers and ships a wide variety of native plants throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.

A Capable Candidate must demonstrate the following: 

Confidence and a pleasant attitude when communicating with staff and customers; adaptability/flexibility and stress tolerance on a day-to-day basis; genuine willingness to accommodate customers; ability to multi-task, plan, organize and manage time efficiently; and understanding and familiarity with horticultural practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree – Ecology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Horticulture, or a related field; Excellent native plant identification skills (Mid-Atlantic Region); At least two years of plant sales experience; Computer skills: experience working with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) required; Some knowledge working with Quick Books a plus.

General Responsibilities

Sales/Marketing 

Respond to phone calls and emails from customers requesting plant availability; explore opportunities for future sales; create and manage customer contact lists; provide plant quotations, and manage future correspondence with customers.

Inventory

Manage confirmed orders, adding information to inventory database; enter changes/transplants into a database; and manage the inventory.

Daily Order Processing

Process orders, including order confirmation and deposit request letters; prepare daily invoices for net 30 accounts.

Shipping Schedules   

Assist/supervise staff in delivery preparationprepare paperwork for delivery.

Delivery Schedules  

Quote delivery costs; schedule deliveries; prepare maps; confirm routes with the driver.
