WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING EXACTLY?
As a part of the Climate Judiciary Project (CJP) you will be involved in fostering a better understanding of climate science and the law in the judicial community through educational programs. To do this you will engage with diverse constituencies of scientists, judges, and policy experts. As the Manager you will be directed by the Project Director, in close consultation with the Project Leader, the Director of Judicial Education, and the leadership of the Research and Policy Division, and your role will be managing all aspects of the program including:
- Operational Planning. Lead, in collaboration with CJP team, the development of, tracking of progress, and reporting on a plan for execution of multiple programs to deliver over several years. Create a master tracking schedule for simultaneous and sequential completion of tasks (operational plan), and report on and update that schedule as programs and products are delivered and plans evolve, in consultation with substantive leads for each element, as relevant. Activities will include:
- Curriculum development. Production of module elements by tracking progress, coordinating drafting and editing process, in communication with in-house team, authors, and contractors. Track production of video presentations, compilation of materials, and publication of the curriculum.
- Workshop convening. Plan and execute, or support colleagues in planning and executing, multi-day training programs in various locations; coordinate with hosts and other partners, drive agenda development, recruitment, and administrative and logistic tasks.
- Coordinate network of judicial climate science educators. Support the selection of judicial focal points, coordinate communications with them, and contribute to the development and convening of in-person and virtual events.
- Web management. Serve as content editor for CJP web presence in coordination with CJP team, the ELI communications team, and web design contractor, leading the development of the resource website for judges and subsequently providing regular updates of content including modules, videos, bibliographic material, news, etc.
- Relationship management. Manage and track relationships with program partners, curriculum advisory committee, funders, scientists, legal scholars, experts in climate impacts, and other partners including judges and appropriately represent the Project.
- Evaluation. Work with team to create and then manage the ongoing evaluation of the Project. Write or coordinate writing of periodic reports to address progress, milestones, and meeting of goals for the program for continuous improvement of the project.
- Reporting. Write narrative reports on progress of CJP to funders and others. Track and periodically report on achievement of deliverables as grants require.
- Supervise Science Fellow and Project Coordinator jointly with the Director of Judicial Education (and Project Lead) to assign them work as needed to accomplish relevant tasks.
- Monitor Financial Expenditures of the Project, alert project team to significant variances at appropriate intervals, and recommend actions to address these.
This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Research & Policy.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO THRIVE IN THIS ROLE?
- A Master’s or equivalent degree, although experience can substitute for a post graduate degree.
- Five years of experience managing multi-faceted projects, ideally related to policy, law, science, or the environment.
- An interest in science and policy as it relates to climate and the environment and the ability to quickly pick up new knowledge and skills.
- Effective communication skills in a variety of mediums and with a broad range of people, including representing ELI publicly in a manner consistent with our mission and values.
- Superb planning, management, and organizational skills and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
- The ability to manage people and projects effectively with moderate supervision while producing high quality results on deadline and within budget is essential.
- Proficiency with standard office software including Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
