SUMMARY The Strategic Programs Manager serves a critical role in developing and disseminating informational content to participants in RAE’s National Summit, regional/national workshops, and other meetings, as well as to partner organizations. The position provides organizing, logistical, and communications support for RAE’s overall mission, strategic plan, and programmatic initiatives, especially the biennial National Summit. This position requires a highly dynamic individual who is passionate about the natural environment, thrives on collaboration, and pays close attention to detail and timeliness in a fast- paced work environment. The nature of this position requires a team player with strong communication skills and a positive attitude, as (s)he will have regular interaction with other members of the RAE staff, the RAE President (President), the RAE Board of Directors (Board), and many external partners. The position is located in Arlington, VA and reports directly to the RAE President. Working from a remote location will not be considered due to the nature of this position. 

RESPONSIBILITIES The Strategic Programs Manager will work with the President, Board, and staff to: 1) lead the development of the biennial Summit program; 2) provide logistical and meeting support for other workshops and meetings; and 3) support and grow RAE’s Affiliate Members Program. This position will strategically engage the community of coastal and estuarine focused non-profits, businesses, and others involved in our work. Main responsibilities include: 

  • Manage all aspects of the Summit program proposal review and selection process, including regular communication with submitters, final selection logistics, and coordinating with contractor(s) to adapt the online submittal site for each Summit; 
  • Work in concert with RAE and partner staff to establish and manage the 50+ member Summit Program Committee, determine program priorities, and develop the Call for Proposals; 
  • Work with RAE communications lead to conduct Summit program outreach; 
  • Support planning and execution of multiple RAE regional/national workshops and meetings per year (e.g. Living Shorelines Workshop, DEI workshop, Blue Carbon National Working Group), including venue identification and selection, communication with potential attendees, registration support, sponsor engagement, etc.; 
  • Manage new RAE Affiliate Members Program including conducting broad and targeted outreach to recruit new members and engage current members in networking and informational opportunities; 
  • Assist on special projects as needed, such as reports or development of proposals for funding of policy and advocacy-related projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must have a passion for healthy estuaries; 
  • Able to think strategically and adapt ideas quickly; 
  • Successful track record of juggling multiple priorities in fast-paced environment; 
  • Experience building and working with coalitions to leverage success; 
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; 
  • Self-starting and comfortable in small office environment; 
  • Excellent teamwork skills; 
  • Degree in related field; and 
  • At least three years related work experience, preferably in a non-profit environment.
