State Master Gardener Coordinator

We invite applications for the State Coordinator position for Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardener Program, at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The position will be housed in the School of Plant and Environmental Sciences on campus in Blacksburg, Virginia.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) State Extension Master Gardener Coordinator is responsible for working collaboratively with the Extension Master Gardener Program Director. This position will coordinate statewide aspects of the program including development of traditional and digital training opportunities, an annual statewide EMG conference, distribution of training and other programmatic materials, efforts to expand program diversity, marketing for volunteer recruitment and retention, serve as the VCE liaison to the Virginia Master Gardener Association (VMGA), and serve as the primary point of contact for EMG related inquiries. This position will work collaboratively with the EMG Program Director, and report regularly.

The position is a full time, 12 month, restricted position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Required qualifications include a M.S. degree in horticulture, leadership, agricultural education or closely related field or a B.S. degree in horticulture, leadership, agricultural education or closely related field with relevant work experience and an earned M.S. within 3 years of employment. Proficient computer skills and a willingness to learn new applications. Ability to organize and manage events. Demonstrable excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills. Day and limited overnight travel are expectations of this position.

Preferred qualifications include additional computer skills in current social media technology, online learning development, and virtual meeting management. Demonstrable superior organizational skills, program management, budget management, and time management skills. Ability to build, manage, and be engaged with effective, diverse teams. Experience working with volunteer groups composed of diverse volunteers.
