The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC), a non-profit land trust and watershed restoration organization in Baltimore County, is seeking an energetic intern to assist in maintaining newly planted trees. Tree maintenance is an essential part of reforestation and involves removing invasive vines and making sure young trees are growing properly.  Great opportunity for someone interested in gaining hands-on experience with an environmental non-profit!

Work will be done within the mid to northern Baltimore County Gunpowder Watershed area to assist in the GVC Reforestation Program. Hours are flexible and can include weekends. Intern will be expected to commit to 3 hrs. a week minimum hours per season, for April, May and June of 2020, and preferably, Summer 2020. This position is unpaid.

Required:

Must be age 18+; must provide own transportation; and be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Essential qualities needed include:

Honest, hard worker; ​ability to take instruction and apply consistently; willing to work outside in an open field environment with high, flowering weeds; willing to work in the heat as well as cool temperatures; attention to detail; ability to work without direct supervision; and able to take initiative.

The ideal candidate will have:

Minimum of 1 year of college level course work; working towards degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, botany, or natural history.
