Member Position Summary:

Looking for a way to serve your community while gaining valuable experience? CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps places members at schools, nonprofits, and community organizations across Central Pennsylvania.

The AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator will support Chesapeake Conservancy in expanding volunteer engagement, strengthening partnerships, and increasing capacity for conservation programming in Central Pennsylvania. The member will assist with volunteer recruitment and coordination, support restoration project logistics, and contribute to outreach and educational efforts that promote environmental stewardship and water quality improvement. Chesapeake Conservancy operations continue regardless of AmeriCorps participation. The AmeriCorps member enhances conservation programming and community engagement by providing additional program support, outreach assistance, and volunteer coordination. AmeriCorps members serve alongside site staff and will not replace staff or perform duties that are typically assigned to paid employees.

Site Specific Responsibilities & Required Training:

  • Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement
    • Recruiting new volunteers through outreach to community organizations, schools, and
      partners
    • Maintaining communication with volunteers via email, phone, and outreach platforms
    • Supporting development of outreach strategies to increase participation
  • Volunteer Coordination & Event Support
    • Coordinating volunteer events including scheduling, logistics, and communication
    • Assisting with planning and facilitating volunteer trainings
    • Supporting day-of-event coordination and participant engagement
    • Tracking volunteer participation and hours for reporting purposes
  • Conservation & Restoration Program Support
    • Supporting riparian buffer projects including live staking and tree planting
    • Assisting with site preparation, material coordination, and event logistics
    • Participating in field-based restoration activities
    • Supporting maintenance activities such as invasive species management and buffer upkeep
  • Community Outreach & Education
    • Assisting with development of educational and promotional materials
    • Participating in community events, workshops, and outreach activities
    • Promoting environmental stewardship and water quality awareness
  • Partnership Development Support
    • Strengthening existing partnerships
    • Supporting development of new community partnerships
    • Coordinating with partner organizations on volunteer and restoration efforts
  • Data Tracking & Reporting
    • Maintaining accurate records of volunteer participation and service activities
    • Assisting with data collection related to program outputs and performance measures

Minimum Qualifications (Academic, Experience, or Physical):

  • CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
    • Ability to pass National Service Criminal History Check (FBI, state, and NSOPW) prior to service
    • Commitment to community service and AmeriCorps mission
    • Ability to serve as part of a diverse team
    • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
    • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to accept feedback professionally
  • Site Specific Qualifications:
    • Interest in environmental conservation or outdoor service work
    • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
    • Comfort with both field and office-based work
    • Experience with Google Workspace or similar tools preferred
