Anacostia Riverkeeper is searching for a motivated individual to work part-time starting April 2022 and through September 2022 to be supporting staff for its community water quality monitoring programs through lab work, potential field work, data management and visualizations, and other related work. Work will be conducted mostly in the office and lab Tuesday through Thursday during the monitoring season (May-September). At other times, the work will be preparatory and supporting the monitoring project coordinator and program lead remotely. There will be an opportunity to extend this position after September. 

Duties are as follows: 

  • Correspond with volunteers for scheduling
  • Communicate monitoring results on platforms like social media, Swim Guide, Water Reporter
  • Run laboratory and office organization during monitoring season
  • Support other communication and outreach efforts based on the monitoring programs 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, or natural sciences or in the process of receiving one
  • Understanding of water quality parameters like bacteria, turbidity, and pH
  • A quick learner with the ability to work in teams and individually
  • Possess a commitment for environmental protection and the environment
  • Excellent command of all Microsoft platforms (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous laboratory experience
  • Experience in scientific data management and communication
  • Regular access to car during summer months (May-September)
  • Some Experience with WordPress website platform and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign)
