    Business Manager

    The Chesapeake Research Consortium (CRC) is a partnership of 6 leading research institutions in the Chesapeake watershed (www.chesapeake.org) and encourages scientific and technical activities in the Chesapeake Bay, its drainage basin, adjoining airshed, and adjacent coastal waters of the Middle Atlantic Bight. The Consortium is primarily supported by grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts with government agencies and departments as well as some private firms; there are no fund-raising for endowment nor marketing activities. The office provides a friendly working environment and participation in a team commitment to facilitate regional basic and applied science and the transfer of that information to inform science-based management for the restoration of the bay.
    To fulfill its on-going and future efforts, the CRC has an immediate opening for a Business Manager familiar with 501(c)3 fiscal requirements and reporting.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    General accounting (AP, AR, general journal entries, bookkeeping, reconciliations)
    Financial statement preparation
    Budget development and monitoring
    Grants proposal development, management, and contract administration
    Office management and financial oversight, including management of the annual financial audit
    Vendor relations, including office service providers and grant-funded subcontractors
    Presentation of financial results to the Board of Trustees and taking of minutes at Board meetings
    Qualifications/Skills:
    A Bachelor’s Degree with some accounting coursework is required.
    Three-plus (3+) years of accounting experience and familiarity with non-profit financial reporting and management is preferred.
    Federal Grants management and contracting experience is preferred but not required.
    Experience with accounting software and ability to pick up new systems are required. Familiarity with QuickBooks would be a plus.
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. Knowledge of, and comfort with, web-based and cloud-based office solutions are plusses.
    Interest in the environment and Chesapeake Bay-related issues is a plus.
