Job Opening – CRC Chesapeake Bay Program Environmental Management Staffer
Restoration of the Chesapeake Bay requires committed, passionate individuals and the Chesapeake Research Consortium (CRC) seeks such an individual for a three-year appointment to the Chesapeake Bay Program’s Habitat Goal Implementation Team. The purpose of the goal team is to facilitate projects to protect, restore, and enhance fish and wildlife habitats across the Chesapeake Bay watershed by coordinating efforts of partners of the Chesapeake Bay Program. These habitats include tidal and non-tidal wetlands, living shorelines, submerged aquatic vegetation, islands, uplands and forests, and freshwater streams. In addition to staffing the goal team, this position also supports the Wetland Workgroup, SAV Workgroup, Fish Passage Workgroup, Stream Health Workgroup, Mid-Atlantic Panel on Aquatic Invasive Species, Brook Trout Action Team and Black Duck Action Team.Read more
The candidate selected for this position will be involved in team activities and will be responsible for organization and support of meetings, member coordination and communication, task tracking, and research and synthesis activities, including reporting on performance indicators. The Staffer for the goal team should expect to engage in work such as drafting policy pieces and decision support documents, and will gain experience in working with natural resource managers from around the Chesapeake Bay. The selected candidate will work as a CRC employee at the U.S. EPA’s Chesapeake Bay Program Office located in Annapolis, Maryland.
The ideal candidate for the position would have the following background and qualifications.
Bachelor’s Degree with a focus on environmental management or policy, candidates with natural or environmental science, fisheries, wildlife, forestry or conservation biology degrees are also eligible to apply if those applicants have an interest in management and policy.
Knowledge of Ecosystem Management concepts including its physical, biological and economic components as they relate to a large watershed restoration program is also desirable.
Ability to compile, track and assess environmental and natural resource data a plus.
Ability to perform background research, analysis, and synthesis on policy and science related topics.
Ability to work with people in a consensus building environment and independently plan meetings, develop agendas, and draft concise meeting minutes.
Ability to prioritize tasks under tight timelines in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with partners at all levels of program activities with diplomacy.
Ability to manage and update content for group web pages using a content management system.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Experience with Microsoft Access is a plus.
Familiarity with remote technologies such as video conferencing (Web-X, Adobe connect, etc.).
Basic knowledge and application of GIS a plus.
Interest in learning how a multi-party, governmental-environmental-management partnership makes decisions effectively and sets and achieves goals through collaborative processes.

The annual salary is $38,475 and a competitive vacation and benefits package is included for the three-year position.
