The Chesapeake Research Consortium (CRC) is a partnership of 7 leading research institutions in the Chesapeake watershed (www.chesapeake.org) that encourages and facilitates scientific and technical activities in the Chesapeake Bay, its drainage basin, adjoining airshed, and adjacent coastal waters of the Middle Atlantic Bight. The Consortium is primarily supported by grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts with government agencies and departments as well as some private firms; there are no fund-raising for endowment nor marketing activities. The office provides a friendly working environment and participation in a team commitment to facilitate regional basic and applied science and the transfer of that information to inform science-based management for the restoration of the bay.
To fulfill its on-going and future efforts, the CRC has an immediate opening for an Accounting Clerk. Applicants are encouraged to apply by Friday, February 3, 2017.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Process all fund draws from federal grant reimbursement accounts
Process invoices and prepares checks for signature
Review bank deposits
Reconcile all bank accounts
Mail vendor checks
File paid bills
Record used leave
Create invoices and grant reimbursements for accrued leave, payroll, and health insurance.
Review and file time sheets and leave logs for staff; handle staff mail.
Track 1099 recipients for annual audit
Work alongside Business Manager to review and manage cash flow
Share responsibility with Business Manager for data entry into accounting
Organize quarterly board meetings, including draft agenda and board minutes
Provide scheduling assistance for the Executive Director
Work with CRC staff on managing CRC website, Quarterly Newsletter, and social media
Some college required, four year degree preferred.
Two-plus (2+) years of accounting experience and familiarity with non-profit financial reporting and management is preferred.
Experience with accounting software and ability to pick up new systems are required. Familiarity with QuickBooks would be a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. Knowledge of, and comfort with, web-based and cloud-based office solutions are plusses.
Computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook software.
Detail orientated, professional attitude, reliable.
Interest in the environment and Chesapeake Bay-related issues is a plus.
Interest in learning HR functions or Social Media outreach a plus.

Salary to be commensurate with skills and experience. Expected range: $30,000 to $35,000 annually.
