Road Salt Use: Practices and Alternatives
Impacts to Water Resources
Effects on Local Ecology
Management Planning and Policy
Description: Data collection and analysis across the Mid-Atlantic region has shown in recent years that the increasing usage of road salt during winter months has an impact on our local waterways and groundwater. This all-day conference will provide information on current road salt operations, applications, and best management practices within the state and local counties. Presenters will also discuss current scientific analysis and monitoring efforts, and the effects of elevated chloride levels on surface water, groundwater, and local ecology. Lastly, the workshop will provide an overview of management strategies, including regional policies. A panel discussion will invite attendees to identify additional information and monitoring needs.
Time: 9:00 AM-4:00 PM; registration opens at 8:30am
Speakers: TBA (an agenda will be posted soon at http://dnr.maryland.gov/streams/MWMC/announcements.asp)
Cost: $30 per person, includes continental breakfast and lunch
Space is limited and registration will close when capacity is reached. Walk-in registrations will not be accepted. Click HERE to register online (registration closes at noon on April 8, 2016).
