    Restoration Surveyor and Designer

    Environmental Concern Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit located in St. Michaels, Maryland since 1972. EC’s mission is to promote the public understanding and stewardship of wetlands with the goal of improving water quality and enhancing nature’s habitat through wetland outreach and education, native species horticulture, and the restoration, creation and enhancement of wetlands. EC has restored more than one thousand wetland acres, protecting more than 35 miles of shoreline in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. EC designs, permits, constructs, plants, monitors, and maintains hundreds of wetland habitats, including tidal wetlands, nontidal wetlands, tidal and nontidal buffers, and surface water management facilities.
    We are seeking a motivated Restoration Surveyor and Designer with a background in the environmental field to join our multidisciplinary growing team of ecologists, biologists, construction specialists, CAD and GIS specialists, and project managers. Professional certifications in engineering and surveying are not required.
    Responsibilities of this position include:
    Site Assessment:
    Scoping sites for suitability for living shorelines, stormwater retrofits, habitat enhancements, and wetland restoration projects to aid in implementing WIP projects and meeting TMDL goals.
    Calculating nutrient reductions associated with urban and agricultural BMPs using protocols defined by the Chesapeake Bay Program.
    Meeting with clients and stakeholders.
    Creating project concept drawings.
    Survey:
    Surveying using Trimble Total Station, GNSS and GPS equipment, and processing site surveys using Trimble Business Center and Civil 3D.
    Delineating wetlands (tidal and non-tidal).
    Identifying trees, plants, and other natural resources.
    Design:
    Designing stormwater management projects to MDE stormwater design manual.
    Designing non-tidal wetlands – water budgeting and wetland hydrology.
    Designing living shorelines and shore erosion control projects.
    Designing erosion and sediment control measures.
    Bid Costing:
    Estimating costs of construction projects.
    Analyzing bid documents, specifications, and construction drawings, including material quantity take-offs.
    Construction Support:
    Laying out projects on site using Trimble Total Station, GNSS, GPS, laser levels, and tapes.
    Providing technical assistance to the construction crew.
    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
    Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or similar course of study.
    Minimum 3+ years of experience in field.
    Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
    Proficiency in hydrology and hydraulic analysis and design (Autodesk Storm and sanitary analysis, TR-55, Rational Method).
    Experience in site surveying and processing using Trimble Total Station and GNSS equipment.
    Knowledge of MDE wetland permitting, E&SC, stormwater and grading permits.
    Familiarity with products and materials associated with stormwater management and natural resource construction projects.
    Familiarity with construction equipment used to construct stormwater management and natural resource construction projects.
    Experience providing technical support to construction crews.
    Experience reading site plans, calculating material quantities, and estimating construction costs.
    Familiarity with MDE manuals and procedures, and USACE Coastal Engineering Manual, and ACES computer program.
    HEC-RAS.
    SPAW wetland water budget analysis.
    Plant identification.
    Wetland delineation.
